For 3 hours it felt like SV... almost!

I was supposed to go for Nexus 2007 http://www.nexus2007.com/nexus/ on Saturday, but couldn't make it for the whole event due to other priorities. However I did go for a few hours.

It was organised by The Digital Movement whose founding members are from the NOC program. I think the event was great and they had a stellar line up of speakers. IMHO, some of the themes were way to broad and generic, but I guess that was the original intent of the organisers, since its hard to organise a big event which focuses on a niche and get enough people to attend it in SG.

I liked the event more because of the individual speakers. I have lived and worked in SV for a year and a half and have attended numerous such events. But its been a while now ... and nothing like this ever happens in Singapore (except E27 of course!). While I was there listening to Cory Ondrejka, CTO - Linden Labs (creators of SecondLife), I felt like I was back in SV. The whole talk about company culture, hiring and retaining good employees, going through difficult times etc etc ... reminded me of the good old days, when a bunch of excited (and eager) interns would leave work 15-20 mins early in their newly acquired (second hand-- mine was third) cars to go to an event at 630.

On my way back on the train, I was thinking..... NOC-SV has given us so much, and with all the talk about the alumni giving back to NOC and NUS, I doubt if we can ever give back enough. They say NOC is a life changing experience .... hell ya.... but this statement is only truly understood by the people who have been there.
